How to successfully implement technological change using Essay

How to successfully implement technological change using sociotechnical principles lessons from case studies - Essay Example The whole electric-power industry felt the consequences" (Strategos, 2008). The problems that occurred at Babcock and Wilcox were attributed to quite a few different factors, namely technological difficulties. The company had built a plant at Mt. Vernon on the Ohio River and had pre-sold an entire year of pressure vessels. Before long, they noticed that every single one of the pressure vessels they were manufacturing was behind schedule (Strategos, 2008). Other problems abounded at the Mt. Vernon plant. Labor shortages, malfunctioning machines, rigid standards, and added expenses plagued the company, causing unprecedented delays to take place. Critics of the company's management team also say that corporate arrogance played a role, as had the choice for the location of the plant in the first place (in an area where labor was short and people were very difficult to train). A lot of money had to be spent in vain training workers that only 33% stayed behind after training to actually work for the company. In addition to being short on labor, the company was also short on skilled labor. The company also had equipment problems. These led to even further delays in getting the pressure vessels out (Strategos, 2008). Its customers were so frustrated by the delays that they began to take partially-manufactured units out of the Mt. Vernon plant and have the company's competitors finish them. The costs associated with these customers waiting any longer were just too high (Strategos, 2008). Kaizen Event for NC Machining According to the case study for this particular machining company "A Kaizen Event helped a jobbing-type machine shop implement workcells and set the stage for dramatic improvements in inventory, delivery, productivity, and quality." In this particular case, the results were that, "In the three months after cell startup, the pump assembly line was never once stopped or inconvenienced by a parts shortage from this cell. WIP inventory went from three months to three days. Productivity improved by about 50%. Capacity was released for increased production demand. Quality improved" (Strategos, 2008). Mechanical Control Cables This case study tells about an older organization that had grown to be very successful, but as has often been the case, met up with technological times and hit a roadblock. Their traditional way of doing things had led to too much overhead. After 2-3 consultants spent a great deal of time at the company and "taught, learned, experimented, and cajoled" (Strategos, 2008). According to the case study for this particular company, "In the end, five workcells were in place and a macro layout showed the locations of remaining cells. Training was well along and teams were developing. Supervisors were learning to deal with the cell environment. Mechtrol carried on this work in the years that followed" (Strategos, 2008). Compare & Contrast The last two cases are similar in structure, but are completely different from the first case. In the first case, major problems are causing unforgivable delays that rocked an entire industry. In the second and third cases, a few relatively minor adjustments in cell layout needed to be made in order to maximize speed, efficiency, productivity, and overall profitability. The decisions were also better thought out in the second and third cases, and the management teams took things impressively slower

BRIDGES OF KEESEVILLE (NEW YORK) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

BRIDGES OF KEESEVILLE (NEW YORK) - Essay Example Materials for building and construction that in use presently have some long history while certain structures constructed many years in the past are considered remarkable even today. In order for one to gain an understanding of why structures have been constructed in the manner in which were in the old age, it happens to be vital to look into the human activities within the past. Basically, this may be done done by way of recovery as well as analysis of material, culture as well as data of the environment, which has been left behind. There are several trends that mark construction history basically in the part of materials used. At first the materials were perishable, for instance grass hides. There then came more durable natural materials like timber, stone, clay, stone then event rely synthetic materials were introduced, for instance, brick, metallic, concrete as well as plastics. Old constructions that stand firm up to this day represent a great deal of culture and history and are regarded as significant historical sites apart from the services they offer. Keeseville stone arch bridge is a good example of such structures. Despite the significant services offered by the structure, is quite important in the heart of Keeseville region representing the past of the district. The upper bridge has been located within Keeseville village, where there lives a rural community and the village is located at the northeastern area of Adirondack Park. This bridge runs across the Ausable River that gets waters from the high peaks of Adirondack and flows around 5 miles down from Keeseville to lake Champlain. The stretch happens to be particularly beautiful for the river while it happens to be quite popular for recreation as well as fishing. Ausable River happens to be among the Wild as well as Scenic river system of New York State. This river

Compare and Contrast the Ways in Which Two Poets Create Sympathy for Their Characters †‘on a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ and ‘the River God’. Essay Example for Free

Compare and Contrast the Ways in Which Two Poets Create Sympathy for Their Characters – ‘on a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ and ‘the River God’. Essay The poems ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’, written by John Betjeman and ‘The River God’, written by Stevie Smith appear as two very different poems; one in monologue form and the other in a regular form; but they are in fact two very similar poems. ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ presents a character mourning the death of a deaf man who was very close to him/her, and ‘The River God’ presents a lonely God who is abused by people and resorts to murdering women to keep himself company. Both characters are lonely and the portrayal of this loneliness causes you – the reader to feel sympathetic towards them. The ‘River God’ is lonely because he is only used by others, no one stays to be with him, they leave – ‘and I like the people who bathe in me . . . or will she go away?’ suggesting that he enjoys their company but doesn’t want them to go as he get’s lonely. In ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ the mourner feels lonely because he/she has lost someone very close to them – ‘the kind old face . . . he took me on long silent walks . . . when young’ implying they were close as they have known each other since a young age. Both blame others for the situations that they have found themselves in. The ‘River God’ blames the women who ‘bathe in [him]’ for his loneliness, meaning that out of desperation he tries to keep the women with him but by doing so ends up killing them ‘she lies in my beautiful deep river bed with many a weed’. I believe he understands though that he has killed them and that is why he keeps them in the ‘beautiful deep river bed’; this causes you to feel some sympathy for him as he accidentally kills them but then out of love keeps them in his ‘beautiful deep river bed’. The mourner blames God for the death of the ‘deaf man’: ‘You, God, who treat him thus and thus, /Say ‘Save his soul and pray.’/You ask me to believe You and / I only see decay’ describing how God should be, but then the reality of asking God for things which aren’t achieved. This causes you to feel sympathetic because you see someone who asked God to save him yet he still died – ‘see decay’. The poems both begin with descriptions of characters. ‘The River God’ begins ‘the kind old face, the egg-shaped head’ and ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ begins ‘I may be smelly and I may be old’; the first description makes you feel sad that someone kind and good has died and the second makes you feel pitiful for the river, it’s not the river’s fault that it’s that way as it’s reflective of old age and the abuse it has had by mankind, all of which you would be distraught if you found yourself in so you can feel sympathetic towards them. The poets use the death of a person to draw sympathy from you. In ‘The River God’ a woman dies, one that he was fond of and he was against her dying; in ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ a friendly deaf man dies, presumably suddenly; these draw your sympathy because it suggests that they are lonely, in a state of mourning and vulnerable – all of which are states in which you would not want to find yourself and when you see someone else in such a state, you will feel sympathetic and be able to relate to the emotions they are feeling. The poets use the deaths of characters in their poems to create side-personas for the characters through the persona of the main-speaking character. ‘The River God’ uses the dead woman to give another perspective of what’s going on, ‘This beautiful lady, or will she go away?’ shows this perfectly. The questioning gives her perspective that she wants to leave but she is being held, leading you to feel sympathetic for her as this large ‘River’ is holding her captive and she cannot leave. However, it shows the misunderstanding of the ‘River God’ as she is drowned, ‘Oh who would guess what a beautiful white face lies there’, ‘white face’ implying she is dead, leading you to feel sympathetic again towards him as he is totally ignorant of everything going on around him. ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’, the writer uses the deaf man to display what exactly he/she has lost through his death, Ã¢â‚¬Ë œHe knew the names of ev’ry bird’. This shows how caring he was and this would presumably translate to how he acts to people – kind and caring – and lead to sympathy as you would never want to lose a person so good to die. The poem also describes what further potential to do good he had if he knew what was coming, ‘He would have liked to say good-bye/Shake hands with many friends.’ This causes a sympathetic response from the reader because again even though he was dying he would have wanted to show respect to his friends rather than just leaving. It also creates sympathy because the person who has lost this ‘kind’ man would be very upset about his/her death. We see this when he/she blames God for his death as he didn’t save him/her, ‘’Save his soul and pray.’/ You ask me to believe You and/ I only see decay.’ – this shows a stage of mourning in which you blame others for the death you have experienced. In conclusion, the poets create sympathy for their characters very effectively through: descriptions, meanings and powers out of the characters control; all of which attract the reader to feel some understanding, pity or empathy towards them. The poets both use the deaths of characters to contrast the feeling of the characters and the feelings of the dead to create sympathy.

Online And Offline Business Environment

Online And Offline Business Environment The online marketing can open 24 hrs and round the year but the offline business quite impossible to open 24/7 offline marketing. Online marketing quite easy to marketing than the offline marketing . Online product can be taken more time to receive the product but offline receive within minutes. In the electronic age, no one beyond the advantage and disadvantage itself so offline and online business have some advantage and disadvantage. In case of market extend, offline business needs more staff and location and need to invest more money. On the other hand, online business effect of proper lack of development of internet infrastructure. Apple is the most valuable company all over the world. Its products more sophisticated, innovative and durable. IPhone and iPad are the most popular product in the present. Apple iPad is a more innovative design which is not changeable from the other hardware company so its value is better than other. According to Amit and Zott (2001), any product or firms can be value created by the efficiency, compelimentries, lock-in the customers and novelty. So the researcher analysis the these element to create the apple iPad value creation. Section 2: Comparison between online and offline business environment of apple products Some customers use one channel to do all shopping activities within a product and services and on the other hand some others use different channels at different stages for shipping within a single product category. For example, this type of customer search the information through the internet (online) and buy the product in a retail store (offline store). Customers have displayed complex buying behaviour in the rising multichannel (online and offline) environment, which is including traditional physical stores (offline) and the Internet , (online) (Alba et al., 1997). According to Evans and Wurster (1997) predicted that virtual sellers (online selling) will not replace totally retailers store because some market analysts are realizing that the future market will be a mix of channels. Apple Inc. has used online and offline business channels. The problem of the combination of two ( online and offline) sales channels and it is applying a complementary pricing strategy is still an emergi ng question in the online and offline environment. The researcher is comparing the online and offline business environment of apple products through the marketing mix. Products/services: Nelson (2007), has discussed the transaction about the products and services and further discussed about the offline and online business. In the offline business customers can go to the store and choose and touch the product in real and buy the items in the store. But in online products only can see the product catalogue and choose it from the catalogue and buy it without knowing is it the product appears in reality and order it through the website. Customer can see this product when after receiving it. The website is the main source of online product and brand of online company. The buyer should become aware, develop their understanding and be sure to explore for the product before going to buy the product. In the physical world the strategic looking into the companys detailed online offering. Apple also offers the online and offline store where customers can buy products through the online store and go physically to buy the Apple products in the apple store however Apple use offlin e store first and then update its online store so researcher can say apple uses mix channel (online and offline) in the simultaneously in present day. Some disadvantage of the online shopping in which breaking the trust between buyer and seller. Some cases report published on newspaper about the product selling on the internet such as online selling website, there was found some unethical activities of some people sell different, similar but low quality product send to the purchaser. Price : Price information available online, metering pricing, dynamic, customization and customer participating. The majority of commercial site functions as price lists of the companys physical product variety. Moreover that, the Web site is supposed by the online display and customer as a cost factor due to opportunity cost and connectivity cost, transaction costs and time. Even though these costs will be in for the most part cases lower than the cost of performing these activities physically, the customer will compare these with the cost of finding other online competitors and doing business with them. Apple products generally same cost of offline and online purchasing however some cases, buying through the online need to pay shipping cost too. Place: Huizingh (1999) cited on Efthymios C. (2002)suggested that online business business emphasis to the customer retention, customer service strategic internet applications model and relationship of marketing whereas collective needs insertion much more differentiate. According to Lawrence E., et. al (1999), described that a customer changes their behaviour according to time and new generations, and shifting their behaviour pattern collective to individuals. This statement provides the researcher a key thing to shifting behaviour pattern of customer take place offline business to online business. However traditional marketing concept is not compatible in the present e-business/commerce concept and growing present e-business/commerce articles emphasis more about the online transaction and online marketplace, real time processing of orders, Online order, online payment, involvement of other partner and online distribution product. Promotion : According to Aman. , et al (2010), The promotion refers to creating and understanding advertising for users to know about the products and services. Efthymios C. (2002)., Internet, in the business environment, is the major factor for attracting and retaining of the online customer. Traditionally developed strategies making them rapidly out of date, Oliver R.W., (2000). The product promotion through the online selling/marketing turns out to be a better than the offline selling. The online selling or marketing is more cost-effective than the offline marketing and online marketing is also faster than the offline marketing/ selling to a customer. According to Efthymios C. (2002)., the Web site is the online marketing medium as well as the promotional content. The web site is the main content for the online business environment of the any of the company. Promotions or good deals specifically for iPad or iPhone is not approved. Apple is not selling their product like the iPhone or iPad for promotional use nor offer has written consent for any company to give it away. Apple is using for sales promotion guarantees for money back, lower purchase price rate and return policy etc. The Apple stores are looking different and remarkable than the many other electronic stores because Apple exhibit all of its products for customers to understand practically. The apple major sales promotion surfing the web on any of their products like computers iPad, and iPhone etc.. Apple provides in hand-on in the stores in which the customers familiar with the Apple products in practical. Section 3: How Value Creation Of Apple iPad The performance of actions that increase the worth of goods, services or even a business. Many business operators now focus on value creation both in the context of creating better value for customers purchasing its products and services, as well as for shareholders in the business who want to see their stake to appreciate in value. Businessdictionary.com Amit and Zotts model of the sources of value creation in e-business technology. They discuss about the four dimensions of value creation in which efficiency, complementaries, locks-in and novelty which are given in the below in the figure. C:UsersTaraDesktopvalue crating.jpg Sources : Value Creation in E-Business How to create value through the e-business of apple iPad Amit and Zotts (2001)business model based on the e-business. This model particularly used in the firm but it can be extent firm boundaries. This model includes all the representative and outside the industry who does not involve the company because of the open networks based internet infrastructure of a particular transaction. Furthermore, virtual markets offer possibilities to expand products and services to integrate complementary products and enhance access to the resources and potentialities , cooperation of innovative forms can be the value created effectively. Amit and Zotts identified the four dimensions of value creation in which efficiency, complementaries, lock-in and novelty. Amit and Zott(2001) has shown many ways in which customer preservation can be superior, and firms provide loyalty programs and rewarding regular customers with particular bonus systems, and firms can develop a leading design according to its trademarks from business planning and trustful relationships build up to customers. According to Canada, A.(2012), Apple created the desirable offering and features to create customer lock-in and switching costs. Apple Apple iPad is also a new leading design device which has strong positive perception of the customers and through the e_business iPad locks its customers in its innovative design and function. Furthermore, e-business make possible to increase lock-in the customers through the modify products, services and according to the interest of the customers needs. Apple has locked their customers into its expanding ecosystem of products and services, as well as its content, (Canada, A. (2012). According to Amit and Zott (2001) suggests that in e-business is the high potential power for value creation, offering the package of complementary services to the customers. Apple creates its the ecosystem in which Apple iPad sales with free apps which access with other Apple devices. However apple do not sale their product in bundles. According to (Canada, A. (2012), generally iPhone and iPad users benefit from ecosystem integration of Apple devices like iPod, Apple TV, and the Mac PC. and Icloud allows clients to effortlessly share media between the devices. Apple TVs Airplay permits music and videos from the iPhone or iPad to be easily shared over WiFi. This service creates the value of Apple products also however, the Apple does not sell their product at bundle price and sells in separately. In the e-business, efficiency can be increased value of the products and services. According to AppleInsider Staff (2011), many hardware companies struggle to compete with the iPad in terms of sales and innovative design, they cannot match with apples iPad design efficiency so the Apple still sells its iPad in lower price into the market. E-business provide the cuts in cost transactions which gains the greater efficiency of lower cost transactions and make the product valuable. However Apple iPad is struggling with a google table in terms of price. Amit and Zott(2001) explain about the novelty. Innovation is broadly advertised as the key to long-term economic prosperity, and concerns have been raised as investing enough in innovation to drive future growth (Hamm 2009). Novelty dimension, through which value can be created, is to connect previously unconnected parties. Apple does the business it online and offline stores and it is not doing the business unconnected third parties. If Apple does the business with unconnected parities its value should be increased. E-businesses can be innovated in the method they are doing business in structuring transactions. For example, eBay set up customer-to-customer sale structure in which customer sales and buys their product on a large scale, and many unconnected firms create their value using the new innovative transaction systems and can enter the new markets through the e-business. Innovation is broadly advertised as the key to long-term economic prosperity, and concerns have been raised as investing enough in innovation to drive future growth (Hamm 2009). Conclusion and recommendations Apple should do their business with unconnected parities and create the value. For example, is one of the new company which given a new translation platform which is given a customer to customer buying and selling product, researcher has believed that if Apple iPad go to sell in a new transaction or unconnected parts, its value would be better than now. Apple does not sell their product at a bundle price according to Amit and Zott (2001), e-business is the great platform to sell the product. If the product sells in bundles or in package it can be create the value of the product so apple should be used for more value creation of Apple iPad and other products.

L.A. Gang Member by Sanyika Shakur Essay -- Monster Autobiography L.A.

L.A. Gang Member by Sanyika Shakur Kody Scott grew up in South Central L.A. during the nineteen-sixties and seventies, soon after the creation of the Crips. Raised in poverty without a father, and a full family raised solely by his mother, Kody Scott led the stereotypical â€Å"ghetto† life, a poor and broken home. However he does not blame this on his own personal decision to join the Crips while only eleven year’s old. The allure of the respect and â€Å"glory† that â€Å"bangers† got, along with the unity of the â€Å"set†(name for the specific gang) is what drew him into the gang. Once joined, he vowed to stay in the â€Å"set† for life, and claimed that banging was his life. After many years of still believing this, he eventually realized that the thug life was no longer for him, and that gangs were a problem on society and the â€Å"Afrikan† race(page 382-383). In his book â€Å"Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member†, he tells of his life story and how he came and left the gang life. For thirteen years he was a member of the Eight Tray Gangsters, a set of the Crips, and throughout the book he explains, sometimes in full detail, the life he led while in the gang and his many times in jail and prison. These life stories he tells, include drive-byes, shootouts in supermarkets, parks, streets, houses etc., fist fights, group beatings, kidnapings, doing drugs, selling drugs, car-jacks, amputation, robbery, friend’s deaths, enemies’ deaths, being shot, knife fights, police abuse, jail riots, jail rapes and any other part of the gang life possible. Now if possible, imagine that this all happened within thirteen years, and to a teenager. These crimes, more specifically the brutal ones, are what got him his nickname â€Å"Monster Kody†. None of this really affected him though, until when in jail, he was c onverted to a Muslim, when he changed his name to Sanyika Shakur. However, it took him a while to realize that what he was doing was wrong and it was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Although he now realized this, it wasn’t because of religion really, but more for the survival and advancement of the â€Å"Afrikan† race, as he was now becoming more and more politically and morally conscious(page 277). After coming and going out of prison, he was struggling between the two lives he was trying to lead, one as a banger and the other as a leader for the â€Å"Afrikan†... ...left the gang life behind in order to raise his family in a safer environment and also to settle his conscience down and feel better about himself. In conclusion, Kody Scott a.k.a. Sanyika Shakur, used this book as a tool to help let society know the dangers of the gang life, and possibly some advice to help prevent gangs from growing and spreading, and also to prevent his past from becoming somebodies future. Which is best summed up in his last paragraph from the book in which he states: â€Å"How do we come to grips with the fact that this thing has gotten way too real, out of control like some huge snowball running down a hill, threatening to smash and kill all in it’s path, including those who originally fashioned it? Time is of the essence, and every thinking person with a stake in life-especially those involved in the fighting-should put forth an effort, something more concrete than a â€Å"media truce,† to deal with this tragedy. The children deserve to have a descent childhood where they live. They shouldn’t have to be uprooted to the suburbs to experience peace. We cannot contaminate them with our feuds of madness, which are predicated on factors over which we have no control.†

The Relationship Between Early Humans and Their Environment :: Environment Environmental Pollution Preservation

The Relationship Between Early Humans and Their Environment In television shows and textbooks, early humans are often presented as being an isolated force within their environments - that is, that they evolved with relatively little influence from their environment. This view often stresses the advances of human beings and their exploitation of the environment as a function of their anatomical development, particularly brain capacity. However, it fails to address the fact that human beings were not as we know ourselves to be today; that we were simply another large carnivore interacting with many different types of animals and environmental conditions, who happened to evolve into a social creature with capacities for reason and innovation. I believe that that aspect of human evolution is extremely important because it is the only way in which one can begin to decipher the reasons why humans evolved from a relatively "dumb" creature, one among many, to the animal which they are today. In A Green History of the World, Clive Ponting analyzes human history from humans' hunter-gatherer roots, their ability to stand upright, their use of speech, and their use of tools. Mary Stiner would emphasize that although these aspects of humanity are important, it is just as fruitful, if not more so, to study the interactions of humans with their faunal counterparts. In doing so, one can try to uncover the reasons why humans evolved into large predators capable of using speech and tools to survive rather than remain like their primate relatives, who are relatively non-predatory. In Stiner's article, "Modern Human Origins - Faunal Perspectives," she emphasizes that because of changes within human beings themselves and changes in the environment (climactic conditions and types of surrounding predators, competitors, and prey) were human beings able to perhaps diverge from these primates with non-modern human characteristics and instead evolve to resemble their predatory competitors. Interestingly, a work on the nature of dogs has shed some insight into this idea of Stiner's - that the predatory competitors of humans rather than human ancestors heavily influenced humans in their hunting and lifestyle habits. It has been debated for some time how dogs became domesticated animals, how and from where they evolved, and how they helped humans to evolve. In a New York Times article by Nicholas Wade ("From Wolf to Dog, Yes, but When?"), Wade convincingly argues that perhaps dogs were never domesticated by humans, but rather domesticated themselves as a survival skill.

Drag Racing

Although the tire tracks of its history are clear, the origin of the term â€Å"drag racing† is not. The theories are almost as many and varied as the machines that have populated its ranks for five decades. Explanations range from a simple challenge (â€Å"Drag your car out of the garage and race me! â€Å") to geographical locale (the â€Å"main drag† was a city's main street, often the only one wide enough to accommodate two vehicles), to the mechanical (to â€Å"drag† the gears meant to hold the transmission in gear longer than normal). The first â€Å"dragsters† were little more than street cars with lightly warmed-over engines and bodies chopped down to reduce weight. Eventually, professional chassis builders constructed purpose-built cars, bending and welding together tubing and planting the engine in the traditional spot, just in front of the driver; the engines, and the fuels they burned, became more exotic, more powerful, and, naturally, more te mperamental. Like almost all racing cars, they have undergone tremendous evolution as racers upgraded, experimented, theorized, and tested their equipment.Safety and innovation paved the way to rear-engined Top Fuel cars in the early 1970s, and once drag racing legend Don Garlits – himself a victim of the front-engined configuration when his transmission, which was nestled between his feet, exploded in 1970, severing half of his right foot – perfected the design, the sport never looked back. Today's Top Fuel dragsters are computer-designed wonders with sleek profiles and wind-tunnel-tested rear airfoils that exert 5,000 pounds of down force on the rear tires with minimal aerodynamic drag.It started out as a wild activity practiced by hoodlums in hopped-up cars, but over the course of a few decades, drag racing would ultimately transform itself into one of the world's most popular motor sports. Drag races after World War II were held on military runways, growing out of speed runs (sanctioned and otherwise) on California's dry lakes. Many recognize Goleta Air Base north of Santa Barbara, California as the site of the first organized drag race in 1949. These early drag strips were temporary facilities with no safety barriers or grandstands—just pavement, people and fast cars.Thousands of spectators turned out to watch early racers run 10-second elapsed times (E. T. s) on the measured quarter-mile—a distance chosen because it was about the length of a city block. Most cars were driven to the track or towed to the races on open trailers. Corporate sponsorship and glistening transporter trucks were far in the unimaginable future Drag racing is best described as a tournament consisting of a two-car straight-line race. It is an all-out acceleration contest from a standing start between two vehicles over an exact distance.Professional drag strips are available for public use all over the world, but the illegal street racing culture has popul arized drag racing nowadays in such a way that most common folks think of drag racing as a bunch of sticker-clad street cars causing mayhem at night. Well, whatever gets you going; it is a fact that the launch becomes the deciding factor in any drag race where the machinery is equal . The race may depend on the launch, but it also depends on how much you know about your car. Every car has its own launching method, and the techniques detailed here will help you determine what is best for your car.All you need to do is experiment with your car, and be aware of any changes to your setup, tarmac quality or weather conditions that could change what you thought was the best method. Pretty much the only hard and fast rule is to practice in various conditions. Drag racing is definitely hard on your car, but to become consistent in your driving, you will have to sacrifice some hard-earned cash for tires, repairs and modifications . With the onset of summer, police across the country are gett ing ready to deal with this potentially deadly pass-time for young people.Across the country lawmakers and police are looking for new ways to prevent the drag races. In Florida, the legislature has approved a bill that would send repeat offenders to jail for up to a year and confiscate their cars. In Los Angeles, police are visiting schools and universities to talk about the dangers of drag racing. And the town of Gastonia, North Carolina is now working on a plan to combat drag racing. Police there say a drag racer lost control of his car and hit five pedestrians . Many Americans, young and old alike, admit they speed at times. But street racing and driving totally too fast is especially deadly for young, inexperienced drivers. Speed cheats them of the time needed to react to road hazards and keep from crashing. Not that many teens, no matter how bright they are, are â€Å"street smart† when it comes to speed. For example, few understand how long it takes to being a speeding c ar to a full stop, no matter how powerful its braking system is . For the record, automotive engineers agree that it takes 268 feet or about the length of a football field for a car going just 50 mph to come to a full stop. At 70 mph, a car or truck would travel almost TWICE that distance.Just imagine what little stopping power a car driven 90 mph has ! The moral of this story is that Drag Racing, is an enjoyable American past time, but only when in a controlled environment. The race may depend on the launch, but it also depends on how much you know about your car. Every car quality or weather conditions that could change what you thought was the best method. Pretty much the only hard and fast rule is to practice in various conditions. Drag racing is definitely hard on your car, but to become consistent in your driving, you will have to sacrifice some hard-earned cash for tires, repairs and modifications.
